What hungover Actually Is

Hangovers aren’t just from drinking. That’s the whole point of this album.

Ella Langley uses the title as a double meaning from the first track. Physically wrecked from a long night. Emotionally stuck on a relationship that kept pulling her back. Every song on hungover lives somewhere in that space — raw, gritty, and completely unfiltered.

Langley co-wrote all 14 tracks with Will Bundy producing the project. No outside pop writers were brought in to smooth the edges. These are songs from her own life, ages 21 to 25, put on tape exactly as she experienced them.

Critics heard it immediately. Reviewers compared its impact to Miranda Lambert’s Kerosene — the kind of debut that establishes an artist not just as promising but as fully formed. Her Alabama rasp and rock-leaning edge cut through country radio in a way that felt both traditional and completely new.

The Songs What Each Track Does

The title track opens the album as its thesis statement. Co-written with Josh Kear and Chris Tompkins, it uses a bad hangover as a metaphor for returning to a toxic ex the morning-after uneasiness of a choice you already know was wrong. Banjo, steel guitar, modern tempo. It sets the tone for everything that follows.

“nicotine” is one of the most-shared tracks on TikTok from the album. Langley likens a lover she wants but doesn’t need to a cigarette fix the pull of something that only makes things worse. It’s still a fan-show staple two years later.

“paint the town blue” flips a country trope on its head. Instead of painting the town red after a breakup, Langley opts to fall to pieces instead. Critics called it clever. Fans called it relatable.

“monsters” stands out for its maturity. Langley sings of memories she’d rather shove under the bed — a quieter, more introspective moment that signals real depth in the back half of the album.

The album closes with acoustic versions of “cowgirl don’t cry” and “broken in.” It’s a deliberate exhale after 12 tracks of tension. An artist who thought about pacing, not just individual songs.

“You Look Like You Love Me” — The Song That Changed Everything

The origin story is almost too good.

Langley wrote the song as a joke with co-writer Aaron Raitiere. She told him: “You know, I get to the point where they look like they love me — I just gotta get out of there.” They thought it was funny enough to turn into a real song. She never planned to record it.

Riley Green had his own doubts. He thought it was far too traditional to work on country radio in 2024.He was wrong.

The duet went viral on TikTok. Over 643,000 fan-made videos. More than one billion plays on the platform by August 2024. It has a classic honky-tonk jukebox feel — a bit of Patsy Cline in Langley’s vocal delivery — that connected with listeners who hadn’t heard that sound hit the charts in years.

In December 2024, “You Look Like You Love Me” reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. That snapped a 51-week streak of male artists holding the top position — the longest such drought since 2003-04.

Then the CMA Awards happened.The song became the first in CMA history to win Single of the Year, Song of the Year, and Music Video of the Year on the same night — sweeping all three of its eligible categories at the 59th CMA Awards. Langley co-directed the video herself. Across both the CMA and ACM ceremonies in 2024 and 2025, the single collected seven major award wins total.

By early 2026, the song had passed 300 million streams and earned 3x Platinum certification from the RIAA.

Why the Deluxe Edition Has Its Own Story

The four tracks added on November 1, 2024 are not bonus filler. They shift the album’s entire emotional arc.

“girl you’re taking home” is a moody ballad that contrasts a serious relationship “Bet she met your grandma, you took her to church” — with a messy situationship. It uses neon bar signs and the idea of last call to make the gap between those two worlds feel real and specific.

“weren’t for the wind” became Langley’s second country radio No. 1 and her highest-charting Hot 100 single to that point, peaking at No. 18. Working with Triple Tigers on radio promotion, it became the most-added song at country radio for two consecutive weeks with 97 total stations adding it.

“made it out of mexico (acoustic)” is sparse and somber. Langley sings of a trip to paradise that ends in heartache. It sits quietly near the end of the deluxe edition and does exactly what it needs to.

The album closes with “monologue” a spoken-word track that feels like the door closing on this chapter. Miranda Lambert came in as co-executive producer on Dandelion the following year. The still hungover era had done its job.

The Still Hungover Tour From Clubs to the Ryman

Langley launched the Hungover Tour on August 15, 2024, and extended it into 2025 as the Still Hungover Tour, kicking off January 23 in Oklahoma City.All newly added dates sold out immediately. The demand kept building faster than the venues could keep up with.

The tour closed with two sold-out nights at Ryman Auditorium on November 6 and 7, 2025. Langley has called those two nights her career-defining moment.”Two nights sold-out at the Ryman — that for me changed it. People ask what is my ‘I Made It’ moment. You can’t take that away from me.”

On Night 2, Morgan Wallen walked out as a surprise guest on Langley’s stage. Gretchen Wilson joined her for “Here for the Party.” Jo Dee Messina performed “A Lesson in Leavin’.” It was Langley’s room, her night, her Ryman.

She went from club dates in January 2025 to two sold-out Ryman nights by November — in one year.

Langley co-wrote every track. She co-directed the music video that won CMA Video of the Year. She headlined her own tour and filled every room. She did all of that before turning 26.

By the time Dandelion arrived on April 10, 2026 — co-executive produced with Miranda Lambert and Ben West on SAWGOD/Columbia Records — Langley had three country radio No. 1s, a sold-out Ryman run, over 900 million streams, and seven major award wins already behind her.

“Choosin’ Texas,” co-written with Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick, and Joybeth Taylor, then became the first song by a solo woman to simultaneously lead the Billboard Hot 100, Hot Country Songs tally, and Country Airplay chart.
